Biggest bass of the year!

At 21 inches! Thanks to my cousin Binh, after setting the hook the fish dug deep followed by a couple leaps and wrapped himself underneath a log jam. For a couple minutes we thought the fish was gone and the hook was snagged into the tree underwater. A few paddle strokes and maneuvering the canoe, the line miraculously came free and the monster bass leaped out of the water! We got it in the net, a couple pics, and back in the water he went to fight another day.

Hair Jigs for Big Turtle Lake Smallies

A great fun week at Arcadia Lodge! Weather was hot and humid the first three days and cooled off a little bit followed by rain and thunderstorms. We checked out and went home on Friday. Smallmouth action was fantastic! The mayfly hatch was in full bloom and the hot lure was the 1/8 oz. or 1/4 oz. black hair jig tipped with a pinched off 2″ Berkley Gulp Nightcrawler or X Zone Lures Slammer. Jigged and worked slow along the reed edges in 8-10 feet of water caught most of the fish. Fish ranged from 19″, 18″, and several in the 16″ to 17″ sizes. One evening I hooked up with a fish in the 20″ mark that took drag and snapped my line due to my drag being set too tight. I also caught a dogfish too on the Rapala BX Brat. Joshua and Stacey caught a few smallies on a live nightcrawler rigged under a bobber. Other lures that caught fish include the 1/4 oz. Acme V-Rod and twister tail with underspin.

Fast start!

Fast start to the 2023 Minnesota fishing opener for this little fella! Spent Friday evening working on his flipping technique. In between the break in the rain on Saturday morning, we got out for a couple hours and JT put on a fishing clinic catching some nice bass.

The Big Brown that got away…

A quick lunch at the Farmington Steakhouse followed by a fun trout fishing adventure on the Vermillion River with my buddies Ed and Matt Doth of Mahigan Outdoors! On this trip, we caught several rainbows and I hooked into a fish of a lifetime only to lose it when it went airborne. Talking to my guide we estimated the monster brown trout to be over 20 inches. A healthy and beautiful fish! Next time I am going to land this fish.

River Monster

Last minute outing to the river on Sunday, February 19th to wrap up the 2022 fishing season. Slow day but we caught about a dozen bass, 2 carp and a buffalo. A tug-of-war battle with a carp that ended up being my biggest carp to date! We didn’t get a measurement but estimating close to 30 inches and between 15-20 lbs. Pulled drag and gave a tough battle! A big credit to my cousin and the best net man Binh. A fun memorable season!
